Katie Moore

Katie's love for clay was cultivated through various courses and studio set-ups in London.

She unearthed her preferred way of making whilst working remotely in a makeshift studio space. Beginning to hand build coiled objects with different clay bodies, she found the technique incredibly freeing and provided her with time to reflect from ongoing research.

During her ceramic studies in Bath, she was revisiting themes explored within her illustration undergrad. Picking up where she left off inspired the development of a unique framework, the framework of the theatre. Katie refers to her clay objects as theatre props which she paints and directs on stage. Stage sets and natural landscapes inspire her painting process and approaches to installing her work.

Katie likes to document her surroundings through sketching by hand and digitally. These visuals are used in the studio as guides for painting her raw clay objects.

She strives to achieve vibrancy in her final outputs, using a mixture of underglazes and slips to paint with. Decorating and firing the clay surface she describes as an ongoing experiment.
